Hi! Welcome to the new home for After Meat. My name is Karthik, and I’m the author of the eponymous book. I’ve also done a fair bit of writing about the transition away from animal agriculture on my previous blog.
The big change with this new site is the addition of recipes. While I haven’t been writing or prognosticating about the future of animal agriculture as much lately, I have been cooking a lot—and I’d love to make that easier for myself and for anyone else interested.
What's different about this recipe website
There are tons of great recipe websites out there, but I often find the experience of using them frustrating. I’m usually cooking in real time with the recipe open on my phone, and it’s hard to track where I am or clear things I’ve already done. Recipes can also be overly long. I wish more sites offered collapsible sections.
Of course, I get it: if a recipe site is your livelihood, you need that text for SEO and other purposes. But that’s not the case here. The main user of this site is me. Anyone else is gravy.
Also, I want different types of recipes depending on the context. Sometimes I’m entertaining and want to go all out, making something really delicious even if it’s a lot of work. Other times I’m just trying to meal prep for the week and need an 80/20 recipe: 20% effort for 80% of the benefit.
How the recipes are organized, searchable, and filterable will evolve as the site develops. I’d love to hear your thoughts along the way.
